Simply soothing
I made this blend simply because of my own discomforts from the flu.
Let's start with licorice root. You gotta like black licorice or you'll turn your nose on this one. It's dated back to the Egyptians.
Licorice root may have potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Early research suggests that, as a result, it may ease upper respiratory infections, treat ulcers, and aid digestion, among other benefits.
"Sage is used for digestive problems, including loss of appetite, gas, stomach pain, diarrhea, bloating, and heartburn. It is also used for reducing overproduction of perspiration and saliva; and for depression, memory loss, and Alzheimer's disease." - rxlists.com
Marshmallow root comes from the marshmallow plant and looks like a brown, fibrous husk. The flowers, root, and leaves of the marshmallow plant are edible.
The medicinal properties of marshmallow root come from the mucilage, or sap-like substance, that the plant produces.
The mucilage of the plant contains antioxidants, and research suggests that it forms a coating over skin and the digestive tract. By doing this, it may help with skin irritation and digestive issues, such as ulcers.
The bad stuff:
If you are pregnant thinking of becoming pregnant or nursing, pass on this blend and stick to just Marshmallow Root. Sage and licorice root are not recommended in high concentration levels for you.
Also, it can raise blood pressure. If you're concerned about yours, again, this blend isn't for you unless you speak with your Dr. Stick to just marshmallow root.
This blend in short can help ease the symptoms of a sore throat and dry cough. Because of the mucilage, it isn't recommended for wet coughs. Also eases heartburn and indigestion, make it a great after dinner tea.
